Jones to turn up the ‘Volume’ on Breast Cancer Awareness

Danielle Jones poses with her team members during the media launch of The Pink Tea at Little Black Dress and Company, The Falls West Mall on Monday 18th September, 2017.

AMCO’s Bubbly Brands sponsors the 2nd Annual Pink Tea which will take place on Sunday 22nd October, 2017 at Chaud Cafe in One Woodbrook Place under the patronage of former Miss Trinidad and Tobago – Danielle Jones-Hunte. JP Chenet Ice Edition Rosé & Laurent Perrier Cuveé Rose are distributed by AMCO, a subsidiary of the ANSA McAL Group of Companies.

“Breast Cancer in T&T, we’re coming for you,” said Danielle Jones-Hunte at the launch of the 2017 edition of her breast cancer awareness charity—The Pink Tea.

“The only ‘cure’ for breast cancer is early detection, and that’s what we will be seeking to promote through this year’s Pink Tea which is more than an event, it’s a positive movement.”

On October 22, guests and fashion muses, sent by designers from across the country, will walk the pink carpet and enjoy tea under tents provided by Party and Events Limited at Chaud Café, One Woodbrook Place. Guests are encouraged to wear touches of pink and muses must wear their designer’s interpretation of the theme Volume.

Trend Media will interview the designers and their muses, and it is expected that the event will garner media coverage from the local press, fashion bloggers and social media influencers. Jones explained why there is such an emphasis on social media.

“Trinidad and Tobago has a very high social media penetration rate. It was important that the event engaged a wider audience than the few who can afford to donate—especially in these challenging economic times,” she said.

Although pink is generally accepted as the colour for breast cancer, there is a deeper significance of the pink carpet at the event.

“Viewers will not just see fashion, or people who are ‘slaying’, they will see people, young people, actively engaged in fund-raising, hear messages about how simple acts like a breast self-exam in the shower, can save lives and see women who have survived breast cancer —and are alive to tell the tale.”

Jones said the funds raised from The Pink Tea will go to the Associates of the Radiotherapy Centre.

“I was reminded by my aunt, Beverly Jones, of the excellent work done by the Associates of the Radiotherapy Centre (ARC). My mother and I attended the ARC support group.

“She, and countless others received tea and light refreshments at each visit to the St James Radiotherapy Centre because of ARC and the first medical professional to teach me the importance of regular self-breast health checks was from ARC.”

Even though Jones has committed the funds raised from this year’s event to ARC, she continues to support the T&T Cancer Society who benefited from last year’s Pink Tea Event.

“I am thrilled to announce today that partners of The Pink Tea will be running various Pink Tea 2017 promotions at their businesses and will send funds directly to the Trinidad and Tobago Cancer Society or offer discounts to event supporters. In line with TTCS requirements, none of these entities are alcohol or tobacco companies.”
