Governor of the Central Bank of Trinidad and Tobago, Ewart Williams,

addresses Investment and Banking stakeholders attending the launch

ANSA Merchant Bank Limited on Tuesday 17 November 2009 launched the ANSA Euro Income Fund targeting investors wanting currency diversification in their portfolios.

At the official launch ceremony hosted at the Hyatt Regency in Port of Spain, AMBL Chairman, Dr Anthony N. Sabga welcomed guests describing the Euro Income Fund as a milestone for ANSA Merchant Bank and for himself personally.  “As a former Chairman of the very dynamic ANSA McAL Group, I have witnessed the introduction of numerous, innovative, solution-oriented products and services by all of our companies, comprehensive and complementary.”

Dr Sabga added: “I think that the best kept secret in our industry is that the ANSA Secured Funds have paid the highest returns since inception and they are the only Funds that offer guaranteed returns.”

Executive Director, Varun Maharaj said the fund offers a valuable option to investors who already have TT and US dollar portfolios.  He said the ANSA Euro Income Fund adds further diversity to the AMBL range of financial products which also includes foreign exchange, asset financing, mortgages and investment banking.

Also speaking at the event was Central Bank Governor, Ewart Williams who gave a macro approach, saying that prior to the economic turbulence of late 2008, Trinidad and Tobago was developing at an unsustainable rate.  He added that the result today is that businesses were no longer investing.  Pointing to the different approach taken by AMBL, Governor Williams praised the strategic approach of the Bank in developing and diversifying its investment products

Rupert Robinson, CEO of Schroders Private Bank, which has been successfully managing ANSA Finance’s international fund portfolio also spoke at the launch, giving an in-depth study of international conditions, punctuating his address by saying that in spite of the financial crisis and the resulting volatility in the international markets, “this decade has also been one of opportunity”.

ANSA McAL Group Chairman and Chief Executive, A. Norman Sabga and AMBL Managing Director Chip Sa Gomes were also in attendance at the launch.
