ANSA McAL Sports & Family Day 5K

 



They’re off! Participants in the 5K at the ANSA McAL Sports and Family Day begins their challenge for honours. 


 


Roland Bartholomew, who runs for Genisis Athletic Club, was crowned the new 5K champion at the annual ANSA McAL Sports and Family Day celebrations themed “Going Global…The ANSA McAL Way 2012” . The 31-year-old clocked in under 18 minutes to win (no official time was available). He was followed by 47-year-old Paul Martin and Lincoln Marchel of Carib placing second and third, respectively. In the women’s category 37-year-old Judith John Sambrano took the gold medal while she was chased to the finish line by Kristine Ragies, who had to settle for silver, while Suzan Garcia secured the third spot.


The event three-time consecutive winner Kenrick Williams did not return to the event this year, thus a new champion was crowned. The race saw over 300 competitors began at Tatil, past Queen’s Royal College, then a lap around the Queen’s Park Savannah. At Queen’s Park East, participants headed south, around Memorial Park, then back to the Queen’s Park Savannah, before turning into Haynes Street where the race was concluded in front of St Mary’s Ground, Serpentine Road, the venue for today’s Sports Day. Eighteen ANSA McAl subsidiaries will take the theme of a country which they represent. Gates open at 7 am, with the March Past to begin at 8.30 am.
 
The following is the order in which the companies, with their represented countries, will be taking part in the March Past: MBM/CIL/SE (Japan), Standard Distributors Ltd (Argentina), Guardian Media Ltd (Jamaica), Head Office/Grand Bazaar/Windsor (Australia), Abel Building Solutions (China), Carib Brewery Ltd (Brazil), Alstons Marketing Co Ltd (Ireland), ANSA Automotive (South Africa), Carib Glassworks Ltd (Italy), ANSA Polymer Ltd (Scotland), Tatil/ANSA Merchant (Spain), Alstons Shipping Ltd (Nigeria) and ANSA Technology (Syria). Five other companies, Tobago Marketing Co (India), Trinidad Match Ltd (Mexico), Sissons/Penta Paints Ltd (Lebanon), ANSA Chemicals (England) and ANSA McAL Group Employees Credit Union (France) will take part in the sports day, but will not contest the March Past.


There will also be a host of activities and games, which will take place from 11 am to 3.30 pm, before the distribution of prizes at 4 pm. Entertainment will be provided by Soca stars Blaxx and Benjai. Parking will be provided for general staff at Tatil Building and the Police Mounted Branch (opposite Long Circular Mall). Two shuttles will be available to and from Tatil Building, and another two shuttles will be available to and from Police Mounted Branch from 7 am to 6 pm.
