Beverage

Trinidad and Tobago was one of the first Caribbean territories to begin brewing its own lager beer in 1950. Since then, CARIB Brewery has built a solid reputation as being the Caribbean beer, with subsidiaries producing and operating in Trinidad, St. Kitts & Nevis, Grenada and the United States.

Over time, key partnerships have been formed with international companies such as Heineken International B.V., Guinness, Interbrew, Ginseng-Up Corp and Diageo, and have resulted in several international brands being produced under license for local and export consumption.   • Nicholas V. Mouttet
    President and Chief Executive Officer, ANSA McAL (Barbados) and Retail Sector Head
    Nicholas V. Mouttet is the President and Chief Executive Officer of the ANSA McAL (Barbados) Ltd. Group of Companies. Previously, he held the positions of Group Marketing Manager at the Bermudez Group Limited, and General Manager of Bermudez Biscuit Company before joining the ANSA McAL Group in 2003. He is the former Managing Director of Abel Building Solutions (ABS) Group of Companies, the third largest subsidiary in the Group, comprising 5 divisions in the manufacturing and construction sectors and employing approximately 700 people. His leadership at ABS allowed for the successful commissioning and pay back of two of the largest block plants in the region and the world and the award of the largest supply contract in the Trinidad and Tobago’s history valued at BDS $67,000 (TT $200 Million). Nicholas holds a B.Sc. in Business Administration with a minor in International Business from Florida International University.

Media

ANSA McAL are the majority shareholders of publicly traded Guardian Media Limited. Guardian Media runs a multimedia operation with presence in print, radio, television, electronic billboards and digital media, making it the most comprehensive media company in the Caribbean.

Most of its operations are in Trinidad and Tobago, with the Guardian daily and Tobago Todayweekly newspapers, CNC3 television, six radio stations, electronic billboards and an increasingly strong digital presence. More recently, Guardian Media also branched out to Guyana with the launch of Mix 90.1FM.

It has operational centres in Port-of-Spain, Chaguanas, San Fernando and Scarborough (Tobago), providing state of the art facilities for in-house and commercial tv, radio and print production. It also has radio studios and production facilities in Georgetown, Guyana.

Guardian Media was recently restructured to reflect the converging needs of today’s media operations and to make the most of digital media opportunities. Instead of platform-specific vertical divisions it now has a more dynamic and flexible structure focused on content, sales and operations.

    Managing Director of Guardian Media Ltd.
    Lucio Mesquita’s career spans over 30 years of local, national and international multimedia experience. In his native Brazil, he took up roles as reporter, producer, broadcaster and editor in print and radio before joining the BBC’s Brazilian Service in London in 1991. He soon moved into the heart of BBC World Service’s journalism, first at the main newsroom and later as producer and editor of flagship programmes such as Newshour and World Update. He returned to the Brazilian Service as its head at a time it was changing from a radio service to a major multimedia content provider. As head of the BBC World Service’s Americas and Europe region, he was responsible for the multimedia content of 10 language services, including its partnerships with US broadcasting organisations and the now extinct Caribbean Service. He went on to run the BBC’s local and regional services for the West of England, based in Bristol and responsible for television output for the BBC’s main channel, BBC1, as well as four local radio and web services. His last post with the BBC before moving to Trinidad and Tobago was as director of BBC Monitoring, the BBC’s unit responsible for the monitoring and analysis of open source media content from around the world, with over 600 people employed in the UK as well as bureaux in Europe, Asia and Africa.

Barbados

ANSA McAL (Barbados) Ltd is a conglomerate of companies across a diverse range of industries which consists of many acquisitions and mergers over many years of operating in Barbados and currently employs in the region of 750 staff members.

Charles McEnearney & Company Ltd of Trinidad and his Barbados counterpart Charles MacKenzie started business on October 22nd 1922 as the Ford and Firestone dealer for Barbados. In 1980, McEnearney Alstons (Barbados) Ltd an investment holding company was incorporated into which McEnearney Alstons Ltd of Trinidad (later ANSA McAL Ltd) and the shareholders of Charles McEnearney & Co Ltd, Badbados invested cash and shares respectively.

In September 2011, Mr Nicholas Mouttet became CEO of ANSA McAL (Barbados) Ltd with a mission to bring world class customer service to all the companies through the delivery of trustworthy, reputable brands, along with courteous and efficient customer service beyond the customer expectation while also delivering to the shareholder optimum value and profits.
