About Special Publication Unit (SPU):


Guardian SPU produces approximately 20 on-going publications a year in addition to over 50 special pages and special projects for the Guardian.


 


The Role:


 


A creative, market-savvy result driven idealist must be able to manage and organize all aspects of magazine production and understand the print production process.


 


Must be able to drive the creative team from concept to completion for every magazine with strong leadership and planning.


 


Must have a proven background in editorial, design and project management to ensure each magazine’s content & design constantly pushes boundaries and become drivers in the market.


 


Must ensure consistency of branding of publications ensuring each magazine delivers advertisers and readers expectations. Previous experience in advertising and marketing would be ideal.


 


Must have excellent multi-task skills and able to work under deadline(s) pressure that may require a commitment of long hours to ensure unison in production, editorial, design, and sales teams to deliver a smooth flow of perfectly polished pages on time.


 


Must have a strong background in verbal and written communication skills as well as excellent management skills to efficiently manage and lead a medium size editorial & design team within the larger Guardian production chain.


 


Job Skills, Training, Education:


 


The ideal candidate must have:


 


Minimum 5-6 years excellent project management skills to efficiently coordinate all magazines simultaneously.


 


Proven management and leadership skills – must be able to efficiently lead a medium size production team of staff and freelancers and coordinate with others through to executive level.


 


Strong media background with strong commercial focus with proven editing and design skills as it will be required to provide creative inputs into the generation of the look & feel of the brand(s). At least a bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in areas such as (print) media and communications, project management or marketing related.


 


Tentative Start Date: 1st week December


Remuneration: Negotiable; subject to experience


 


Deadline for Submission: November 15th. (A portfolio of work presented at interview would be ideal)
