To celebrate Trinidad and Tobago’s 56 years of Independence, the ANSA McAL Group of Companies through its flagship company Carib Brewery Ltd gifted the nation with a free concert on Independence Day at the Grand Stand, Southern Foyer, Queen’s Park Savannah from 4.00 p.m. to 6.30 p.m.
With family and rekindling our love affair with Trinidad and Tobago being at the heart of the celebrations, a variety of local musicians and artistes performed at this inaugural event. The concert was supported by the Port of Spain City Corporation, Music TT, Live Music District, NLCB and Guardian Media Ltd.
The total local entertainment began at 4:00 pm with patrons receiving giveaways on entry to the venue. Carib Brewery’s own talented soca star Ninja opened the show and sang two traditional calypso songs that honored the local art form. He was soon followed by Marlene Felix, from ANSA Automotive who sang Melanie Hudson’s ‘I Will Always Be There for You”.
Xavier Strings got the crowd moving with their violins playing Denyse Plummer’s Nah Leaving whilst moving through the crowds.
Lujoe and the Gifted moved the audience with their own take on the Mighty Sniper’s Portrait of Trinidad.
But it was this year’s Chutney Soca Monarchs Neval Chatelal and Nishard M who really got the party started with their energetic performance of both chutney and soca songs.
The Kings of J’ouvert and Rapso, 3 Canal were the headliners of the Illumination Concert, opening with the crowd favorite and the ever popular, Good Morning Neighbour. Throughout their performance they continuously spread love and positivity to a very receptive audience.
The event featured the full range of Carib Brewery products and patrons were able to enjoy Independence specials all afternoon.
The Caribbean Steel Pan Connextion Ensemble closed the concert celebrations by beating out popular soca that both patrons and moko jumbies danced to.
