ANSA McAL (Barbados) Ltd. Committed To Assisting With Rehabilitation of Inmates at HMP Dodds
ANSA McAL (Barbados) Ltd. in association with two of its subsidiaries, Consolidated Finance Company and Standard Distributors (Barbados) Ltd., has donated eight computers and a television to the HMP Dodds Prison to assist with the prison’s rehabilitation programme.
Three of the PCs are in use by the staff volunteers running the rehabilitation programme while five more were donated by AMBL for use in various classes for persons on remand. This equipment was contributed through Consolidated Finance. A flat screen television donated by Standard Distributors is also being used as a teaching aid in classes for the wider prison population.
During the presentation of the top-of the-line equipment Mr. Nicholas Mouttet, President and CEO of ANSA McAL (Barbados) Ltd., stated that the group is deeply committed to the prison’s rehabilitation programme. “We are passionate about helping persons to reintegrate effectively into society. And the gains are tremendous, not only for them as they make a meaningful contribution to Barbados but for their families, their communities and the wider society. This is a fully integrated programme that in the long run will help to mitigate against crime and ANSA McAL is committed to providing continuous support.”
The computers were accepted on behalf of the prison by Ms. Janet Lewis, a staff volunteer, who works with the rehabilitation programme and runs the library; Head of Education, Mr. Alvin Boyce and Public Relations Officer of the prison, Mr. Ryan Phillips.
Lewis added that the computers being used in classes for remand inmates were a significant boost and had generated an enthusiastic response while the equipment being used in the Education Department has helped to enhance the programmes it offers.
AMBL has also helped to defray the cost of production and printing of a 2014 calendar titled “Promoting Second Chances“, which showcases artwork and poems prepared by inmates which reflect the themes being explored for each month.
