Executive Management Trainee, ANSA McAL Group of Companies Limited

“I can truthfully say that we laugh together just as we shoulder difficult times together and that is what earns us the right to refer to ourselves as family.”

I have been with the ANSA McAL Group approximately ten months, having started my employment in September 2016. Currently, I am assigned to the Group Performance and Audit (GPA) Department. I provide support to the Audit Manager by way of carrying out internal audit procedures as it relates to finance, operations, compliance and risk assessment.

To date, the experience at ANSA McAL has been a positive one, offering endless opportunities for individual growth. It has been immensely challenging and far exceeds any expectations I held prior to commencement, encouraging development by motivating me to always aim for greater achievement.

Since joining the ANSA McAL family I have been gifted the opportunity to see first-hand where loyalty coupled with performance dedication is appreciated and honoured.

I would describe the working atmosphere and the people with whom I work as tough but amicable. We are constantly engrossed in high pressure tasks and situations and as such we often require a no-nonsense approach from employees. However, when all is said and done, I can truthfully say that we laugh together just as we shoulder difficult times together and that is what earns us the right to refer to ourselves as family. We are not a family in the cute and cuddly or picture perfect sense. Rather, when times get tough we know how to band together and get things done and when we achieve something we know how to come together and celebrate our victories”.

The degrees which I possess (LL.B (Hons.), LEC, LL.M (Corp. & Comm), all being of a legal background, provided me with analytical skills which have been beneficial. I say this as the first step to truly understanding an area, especially one in which you have not been trained, is being able to analyze the task before you. Unlike the usual approach to a career where you study your way into a particular field and attain employment in that field, the Champion’s program is designed to determine whether you can survive the rigour of learning everything and being skilled across the board.

The best thing about working where I do is the exposure that I get in various areas of business functions. Further, as the Champion assigned to Head Office I have the added benefit of seeing how the various Sectors operate and contribute to the success of the Group.
